the rome study center project was directed by davide vitali in rome, italy. programmatically, the complex is a new facility for the university pf arkansas school of architecture rome campus, to also encompass a public gallery and shopping. aesthetically it had the greater goal of teaching how to connect with the history of a timeless city, respect for the environment and learning the lessons of rome first hand.

the particular siting of the project had to address significant elevation shanges, a "blank"wall, a 4 m level disconnection from the street, and possible connection to the museum of modern art.
